Who loves food? I mean everyone right? Especially the sweet kind like cakes, pastries, cupcakes, and cookies! Hmm yes, can’t forget cookies. I’ll admit I can never turn down a good cookie neither can Ivy and Aria. As a matter of fact my husband too. I guess you can say we’re a family of cookie monsters. They are kind of like our weakness. So while searching online for some good cookies I stumbled upon a placed called Sweet Flour Bakery located right here in Sacramento CA. At that moment I knew I had to have a Sweet Flour cookie.
Lisa Koob the owner and mastermind behind Sweet Flour Bakery became a happily married woman in 2010. Shortly after Lisa’s wedding, she started feeling those empty bridal DIY blues. All my brides know what I mean. That empty feeling you get when the wedding is over and you no longer have any fun DIY projects. It was then that Lisa decided she was going to replace those blues with a hobby. But what kinda hobby? Baking! As the days turned into weeks, the weeks turned into months and the months turned into years Lisa spent time perfecting her baking skills. Teaching herself how to bake a wide variety of things like gourmet cookies, sugar decorated cookies, cupcakes, chocolate dipped deserts, dessert shooters, candy apples, cakes and so much more. Not only teaching herself how to bake these things but teaching herself how to create vegan options of some of the items as well. Today Sweet Flour Bakery is now a licensed home based bakery business servicing the greater Sacramento area and beyond. But you don’t even know the most amazing part of it. Lisa has done this all while working part-time at Kaiser Permanente, maintaining a marriage and raising not 1, not 2 but 3 wildly fun tiny humans ages 4, 3 and 1 years old. Her 3-year-old having been diagnosed with autism in 2017 made it even more challenging for this super mom. Though she didn’t let it alter her success Lisa has remained strong and has built Sweet Flour Bakery from the ground up. Lisa can I say you are my hero? 🙂
When I reached out to Lisa I was nervous because one I had never collaborated with anyone before the way I was requesting to collaborate with her. Oh, and two because I was also asking that my kids collaborate as well. Unfortunately, my husband works a bunch so he wasn’t able to tag along, even with his love of cookies. So when Lisa responded to my email she was the sweetest person ever. Inviting me and my girls into her home to decorate cookies with her and learn all about her business. It was a date!
A week or two after our email we arrived at Lisa’s doorstep and she welcomed us in with open arms. For an hour and a half the girls got to decorate cookies Lisa made for them in the shapes of things like apples and tulips. She had a bunch of fun colors set out for them to create delicious designs and she even had a tray set out with all different types of sprinkles. The girls were super scared at first because cookies at 10:00 AM? whats the catch mom. But like any toddler, they warmed up to the surrounding of their new environment, had some sugar and started having fun. They even attempted to play with Lisa’s kid’s toys after they were done. Which she didn’t even mind which was so incredibly nice of her. Another thing she didn’t mind? The fact that my kids managed to get sprinkles all over her beautiful kitchen table and floor. This woman has patience for days-with a capital p I tell ya 😉 After decorating cookies and chatting Lisa packaged everything up for the girls in a box and it was time to go. The girls literally gobbled all their cookies up without barley sharing any once we got home.
It was a fun time, and get this! we are going to do it again too! but this time we will actually be having a hand in helping to bake the cookies. The girls keep talking all about it so I know they can’t wait. Be on the lookout for part 2 of this blog post.
