Hey friends! Get ready to take a bite out of this blog because not only is it super sweet, but oh so super adorable too! The DIY cotton candy costume. Though it may not be exactly the blog you expect when it comes to a DIY costume but that’s okay. Because one thing is for sure there is. no denying how stinking cute these two are.
DIY cotton candy costume.
So when I set out to create a DIY costume this year I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to create a cotton candy c0stume. I had seen another mom do it on Instagram a few years back and each year could never get the thought out of my head. So this year I finally decided to give it a go. I could not find the original post on Instagram so I went to the source for all things DIY Pinterest of course! Once on Pinterest, I found a ton of DIY cotton candy costumes. I chose the one I felt was easy and thought I was following the directions step by step. Unbenounced I was totally wrong..wrong I tell ya!
The supplies:
For this DIY cotton candy costume you will need the following:
- Polyester filling.
- Adhesive spray.
- Spray paint.
- Posterboard.
- Glue gun.
- A giant t-shirt.
- & of course a crap ton of patience.
The DIY cotton candy costume steps:
Once you have everything you need these steps should go a little bit like this:
Step 1: Take your polyester filling and pull the pieces apart into small parts.
Step 2: Next take your spray paint and lightly coat the polyester. Let dry.
Step 3: Take your adhesive spray and spray the giant t-shirt. By now your polyester should be dry and you can start sticking the piece to your shirt.
Step 4: Let the shirt dry and begin working on your little hat. Take the poster board and create it into a cone.
Step 5: Once you have your cone you can add a bit of hot glue to the outside and stick on pieces of the polyester. Some people even add hole punches and ribbon to tie the hat under the chin. Or cute little puff balls to the shoes.
Once you have followed all the steps you are done! You my friend have just created the cutest little DIY costume.
The realization that I kinda failed…
Unfortunately for me, that’s not the case so let’s rewind, shall we?
So I had everything I needed to create this costume and I thought it was really easy. However somewhere I went very wrong. I will be honest I contemplated not even writing this blog post because it was such a fail. Their polyester was falling off. I didn’t pull apart the piece small enough. Their hats wouldn’t stay on because I could not for the life of me create a damn cone! even after watching like 5 Youtube videos. I didn’t even attempt the ribbon because again I couldn’t make a cone. Then probably the biggest oopsie I accidentally bought the wrong shirts and had to use two of my random t-shirts I found in my closet from our last trip to Disney. Yup those shirts totally say Carr Family Vacation underneath all that polyester. But here I am telling you my truth and nothing but the truth because the world needs more blog post like this.
The conclusion is as real as it gets.
More blog posts that say “I tried my best”. More blog post that says “here’s a not so great DIY costume” more blog post that says “Not everything has to be perfect, just real.” So here I am with my not so DIY cotton candy costume. At the end of the day, I hope you are able to create a better costume than I was. I hope it’s super cute too! But for those of you who try and fail welp, this blog is for you.
Happy Halloween my underachieving friends!
P.S my niece and daughter look damn cute in their costumes that all fell apart after these photos 🙂
