“I have cancer.“
Reading those words across the screen of my phone, everything paused. I heard beeping in the back of my mind, almost similar to a flatline sound. But still, everything was so quiet. I didn’t know what to say, I didn’t know what to do. I actually can’t remember what I even said or did next but I knew I was scared. If I was feeling this scared reading those words I can’t imagine how my best friend Melissa was feeling as she texted them.
ACS stands for the American Cancer Society. ACS is a non-profit dedicated to eliminating cancer and Raise Your Way is a fundraising platform that was created by them to help people turn any activity they are passionate about into a DIY fundraiser on their time, in their way, how they want! ACS knows that when we support organizations through fundraising it can make a big impact on developing breakthroughs in research to save lives.
Join the fight by turning what you’re passionate about into a fundraiser. It can be as easy as 1, 2, 3 and I’m going to give you 3 quick tips on how to do just that. First things first, what are you passionate about? For me, my drive was my best friend’s cancer diagnosis. Your drive might be the same or different. But once you’ve figured it out then you can go from there to start your fundraiser. There are many ideas on how to do this but below are 3 ways for fundraising ideas to help get you started:
1. Neighborhood BBQ: Similar to a block party, but more intimate you can host a neighborhood BBQ. Invite all your neighbors into your backyard and ask them to make a small donation for a dinner plate. You could even make fun adult beverages and ask for a small donation for them as well.
2. Garage Raffle: Instead of having a boring old garage sale, invite others to participate in your garage raffle. You can sell tickets and raffle off things you no longer want or need. It’s a fun alternative to raise money and clean out your garage.
3. Bake Sale: Because who doesn’t like cookies right? Especially for a food cause. Baking can be fun and hosting a bake sale can bring in a lot of people. Try adding a variety of items to the bake sale menu like cakes or brownies. You could even have a pie baking contest! Can you can yum?
So, friends, there are some super fun ideas to get you started on your fundraiser. You can head to http://www.crowdrise.com/americancancersociety and follow the “start a fundraiser” prompt to set your goal and start your own fundraiser.
