What do you think of when you hear the words
cacti,

prickly,
pear
and boss lady
in the same sentence? I’ll tell you what I think of.
The Prickly Pear!

The Prickly Pear is unique little specialty succulent and cacti nursery that is located in Sacramento, California tucked away in the neighborhood of Oak Park. Created and owned by boss lady Mona Bahraini the Prickly Pear is one of the first shops if not only like this in our area. Mona who grew up in Arizona is a very hard working and beautiful succulent and cacti entrepreneur Upon meeting Mona I felt like she was just one of my girlfriends that I’ve known forever. Her vibe was everything! She was super positive and uplifting when she spoke about her succulents and cacti’s I felt the passion she had for what she does.

So what are succulents and cacti’s? well, I’m sure we all know what cacti’s are, but what is a succulent? A succulent is a plant that has thickened parts to retain water. They are way more bad ass than a normal plant a million times more pretty.

Upon creating the Prickly Pear Mona’s goal was to bring gardening services to our community for special needs adults or youth who don’t have the knowledge or means to be able to experience what it’s like to have a green thumb. Because as Mona’s website states “we believe that nature has the ability to heal.” I believe she is right.

This one was so neat. I took it home with me.

But that’s not all, The Prickly Pear has many other services they offer. Like private events like pot and sip. Where you bring all your friends out to sip and lil something and pot maybe a succulent or cacti. So much fun right? Hey Mona can I book my girl’s birthday party here? hmm, no probably not. Ha, but you get the picture. It’s a grown-up thing.

The Prickly Pear also not only makes but sells beautiful hand designed mason jars too. Plus if there is something different or particular you’d like made the Prickly Pear can create your vision just for you. Oh and if the Prickly Pear looks or sounds familiar to you, well it’s probably because you’ve seen their products. Maybe at the Natural Foods Co-Op in midtown or Taylor’s Market.

I took my girls to The Prickly Pear to create our very own masons jar it. They were amazed at all the different succulents and cacti’s. They surely wanted to give their mama a heart attack trying to touch the stuff.

Once we were settled in Mona gave us everything we need to get started which included mason jars, soil, and pebbles. The girls had fun scooping the soil and packing the jars. They went a little overboard and made a mess.

Mona didn’t mind she let them and even joked around with them about building a snowman aka a soil man. She even let the girls choose their own item to plant.
