Simple summer themed teacher gift. 😎 Riley rec Simple summer themed teacher gift. 😎

Riley recently had her last day of school & I wanted to give her teacher something easy yet practical yet useful but also with a little summer twist. Everything came from Target & she loved it. Me personally my favorite part is the hand drawn picture on the little bin from Riley.

Are your kids still in school?

KNIB (March).

April 6, 2018      Porsha Carr

Hi guys!

Have you had the “talk” with your kids? No, no I’m not talking about the birds and the bees silly. I’m talking about the everybody’s different talk. The talk where we explain to our kids no matter what color, age, shape, and size you are we’re all humans? Yes, that talk. Well even though our kids are only age 2 and 4 we got to have this talk with them and we made it fun using our Kids Night in Box.

This month’s box is my favorite box thus far. It focuses on people who are different from others. Its goal is to give kids the tools and skills to be able to deal with people who aren’t like them. It also focuses on how we can have empathy towards others who are different and how to be more kind. In our box we received the following:

You Be You book.
Magic mold & markers.
Blindfold.
Braille Challenge.
Drawing Challenge.
Obstacle Challenge.
Jell-O pudding, Swedish fish, & graham crackers snacks.

We started off by reading a book called You be You about a little fish named Adri. When going out to explore the ocean Adri realizes there are all different types of fish. Big ones, small ones, short ones, tall ones. This makes Adri realize that the world he thought he knew was different. I don’t want to give away too much of the book but my girls liked it. It was very colorful and they enjoyed seeing all the different fishes.

Next, we opened up our magic mold. This was the kid’s favorite part! It felt like play dough. What we did was take it and added color to it by marking dots on it with our markers. Then we rolled up it until completely covered with color and attempted to make our own unique fish. It was neat; we then took turns wearing the blindfold. With the blindfold on we, each got a chance to smell and feel all the fish we made.

“Even though the fish are different colors are the fish different?” No, the fish are all the same. We then mixed our entire mold together and made one giant fish. “Did this change the fish?” No, it’s still the same fish just a different size. Love this message.

Next, we went through and did all of our challenges. First up was the braille challenge. We explained to the kids how braille is what people use to read who cannot see. People like Louis Braille, the inventor of braille. We let them feel all the dots on the card with their eyes closed.

The drawing challenge then came next. It was fun we learned about the paralyzed artist Joni Eareckson. Joni was a great artist who drew with her mouth. The kids tried drawing fishes using nothing but their mouths. They couldn’t stop giggling it was fun.

Our last challenge was the obstacle challenge. We set up a course for the kids in our kitchen. The kids used their legs for the first time going through the obstacle course then second time blindfolded. We let the kids crawl under the chair and then make it to their pony. Like the famous track star Wilma Rudolph who lost the ability to use her legs and regained it. The kids got to see what it was like to be in her shoes.

Very hungry after this we used our Jell-O pudding to make beach cups. We ate them while we talked about all the fun things we had just done and learned. We talked about how no matter how different we are we are all the same. We should all be kind to one another to make the world better. This box was so much fun! The theme was amazing! I totally look forward to more boxes like this!
